Farm Sink

Probably the most distinguishing feature of a farm sink is its size. Originally designed more for utilitarian purposes than for beauty, the farm sink has always been a practical addition to any kitchen that sees a lot of use.

However, with a resurgence in interest in retro design, there is a wide variety of farm sinks to choose from that will fit perfectly within any kitchen design scheme, regardless of the amount of use.

The difference between a farm sink and a regular kitchen sink is that it has an apron front that shows when installed, whereas a regular kitchen sink is installed within the countertop and the outside of the bowl is hidden from sight.

Another difference between a farm sink and a regular kitchen sink is the bowl of a farmhouse sink is usually much deeper than a regular kitchen sink and has a much larger capacity. Most farm sinks come in single-bowl styles; however, it is also possible to find them in dual-bowl and even triple-bowl styles.

Farm sinks come in a variety of materials, the most popular of which are stainless steel, white glazed fireclay, and marble. As an added touch, some of them may have floral designs painted on or carved into the surface of the apron of the sink.

These sinks cost quite a bit more than traditional stainless steel kitchen sinks, especially those made from marble or other more costly materials, but they can help transform an otherwise dull kitchen into a culinary showplace.

Farmhouse Sinks

Farmhouse sinks are the perfect choice, and the center of attention, for a cottage style house. This type of sink stands out in the perfect farmhouse kitchen, with everything needed for a great meal right at your fingertips.

Farmhouse sinks do not only come in the basic white. There are now some sinks that come in a variety of colors and materials. Stainless steel is one of those kinds of sinks. It is both modern and traditional at the same time. Stone is also a popular and attractive type of farm sink.

For the more popular and modern sinks of today, many of them are copper farmhouse sinks. They come in different shapes and shades, such as the s-shape, square, rectangular, and all of these shapes come in a single or double bowl. Some of the sinks have an apron front and some of them have a unique design on the front. Copper comes in different shades ranging from the copper color itself, to light gray, dark gray, black and even some in a two-tone color.

For the very exotic, French ivory is also used for farmhouse sinks.

The original farmhouse sinks were made of fired clay. Brickwork or a simple cabinet were used to hold up the sink. Since plumbing wasn’t what it is today, the base of the sink was made on the wall on the outside of the house, and possibly also used as a washtub. The sinks were not put in for beauty or design, but for practical purposes and ease of use.

The sinks have come a long way since the fired clay, but the basic design and idea of the farmhouse sinks is still the same. A kitchen is still a center of comfort in the home.
